ABOUT THE ACLU:

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) defends the fundamental rights outlined in the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights. These include the right to freedom of speech and assembly, the right to religious freedom, due process of law, equality before the law and the right to privacy.

California is unique in that it has three affiliates: ACLU of Northern California, ACLU of Southern California and the ACLU of San Diego & Imperial Counties. Often, the three affiliates work in collaboration on statewide initiatives under the "ACLU of California."

The Education Equity team’s foremost priority is to ensure that all students receive an exceptional education, particularly students of color and other groups that traditionally have been marginalized and under-resourced.

The Youth Liberty Squad is a program for high school students where youth can work on ACLU-related activities that will help develop their advocacy, leadership, and public speaking skills while receiving community service hours and networking experience with lawyers and community organizers.

ABOUT THIS JOURNAL:

The Road to Find Journal was founded by Sonia Banker in June of 2020 with the support of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) in Southern California. At its center, the journal was founded on the basis that art and creativity are among the most powerful forms of self-expression. The Road to Find aims to foster a creative space for students across the country to explore various art forms while also reflecting on social justice issues around them. This journal features a range of different art forms, including creative writing, visual, and performing art. We accept submissions from students ages 12-18 on our digital platform at theroadtofind.org in alignment with the designated theme for each edition. We are looking for any contributions and ideas that follow the submission guidelines, and we look forward to reading and receiving your work.
